USACE Cannelton Locks and Dam Park closed

Indiana, Perry County

river mile 721

River access: No. Tree cover: none. Impervious surface: a lot. Landscape design strategy: organized. Information about the Ohio River: little to none.

There used to be a classic USACE park here at Cannelton Locks and Dam.  The picnic shelter, the picnic tables, the modern playground are still there, but the park is no more. It is all trapped in barbed wire, labeled “due to security.” Bummer!!! They could have redone the entrance so it was at the upstream end, instead of right next to the lock structure. Eagle’s Bluff Park and Overlook may have been intended to replace it. How about redoing the entrance so it is at upstream end instead of right next to the lock structure? That would be good PR!!! However, there is an interesting article about working at the locks and dam.

Next park: Eagles’ Bluff Welcome Center and Overlook
