The River Walk in Rising Sun is another classic riverfront park. There’s a walk — in this case, a sidewalk with plaques embedded in it, each one of them devoted to one aspect of Rising Sun’s history , and each one sponsored by a local company or organization or family. The new school, in 1959, had a darkroom and a teacher’s lounge. There’s a picnic table under a tree with a viewing telescope. There’s an amphitheater facing the river. There’s a seaplane port and a hanger. The sign for the town on the riverfront is a wonderful graphic! Kayakers and bicyclists might light to stay at the historic hotel or the log cabin — the first town post office — located on the riverfront; there are some small shops and restaurants in the town. Camping on the manicured lawn is likely to be discouraged.

Next park: Fryman’s Landing
